Collie Buddz At The House Of Blues 10-28-11

Dancehall reggae has come to the forefront of reggae culture in the last couple of years. Artists like Capelton, Buju Banton, Beenie Man, Bounty Killer, and Jr.Gong have all contributed, making the genre what it is today. San Diego was blessed with the dancehall style of Collie Buddz last Friday night at the House of Blues Downtown. The vibes of the Caribbean music were infectious and the power behind the voice driving the music was unmatched. Collie has a unique style, with his legalize it attitude and belief in the love for life. Collie brings an atmosphere to the room of pure bliss. Backed by the New Kingston Band, Collie has put together an awesome show! The crowd at this show was getting down! Being two days before Halloween, a lot of attendees dressed in costume to the show. Halloween and Collie Buddz? What a perfect weekend.

Colin Harper aka Collie Buddz, played selections from his debut album and his new recordings, including songs like Mamacita, Tomorrows Another Day, Come Around, Blind to You, Holiday, Wild Out, and Sensimillia. San Diego has been overdue for Collie! UK singer Gappy Ranks played a lively set to open show. We were even treated to the appearance of C-Money from Slightly Stoopid, playing trumpet alongside Collie’s New Kingston Band. DJ Carlos Culture was on the 1’s and 2’s spinning in between sets. If you haven’t seen Carlos at a reggae show in SD, you haven’t been to one. He comes out for all of ‘em! And when he spins, be prepared for the newest, hottest jams, along with the classics mixed in. Big Ups to DJ Carlos Culture! You can usually catch Carlos at Winston’s in OB on Wednesday nights for Club Kingston. House of Blues was accommodating for our interview but would not allow us to film the performance so we had to use our guerrilla tactics to get shots of his songs.

When the show was over we were taken backstage for our interview. Collie had to finish autographs and fan meet n greets before we could go into his green room. His manager took us to the door and we entered. We were greeted with a big smile and “Hello” from Collie. Collie and his entourage were welcoming and very accommodating. Check out the interview video below. After we filmed our interview and talked with Collie, we thanked him and headed out the door. Only to bump into C-Money from Slightly Stoopid who was waiting in the hall to meet Collie! This was an awesome night of reggae music. If you aren’t familiar with Collie’s music, do yourself a favor and check it out.

Don’t miss out tonight and tomorrow night at the House of Blues! Iration, Tomorrows Bad Seeds, and Through the Roots arrive in San Diego for the Southwest leg of their Lei’d Back Tour.
