RollinSD is proud to co sponsor the Irie Nation and Champion Sound present Lee “Scratch” Perry. Carlos Culture will be DJ’ing along with performances by E.N. Young and Shoreline Rootz! This is going to be an awesome night of great Reggae Music. Only Irie Coast can bring you a legend like Scratch! Buy your tickets now for this event before it sells out. Lee “Scratch” Perry Tickets
Scratch aka The Upsetter reigns from Kendal Jamaica and has been making music since the late 50’s. Perry’s careers deeply influenced the reggae and dub world as it is known today. He has produced artists like Bob Marley and the Wailers, The Congos, and The Heptones. His first single was “People Funny Boy”.
He now resides in Switzerland with his family after a long career of production credits and collaborations with artists like The Beastie Boys, Matisyahu, and Neil Fraser aka Mad Professor. Perry recently gave up drinking alcohol and smoking ganja. Perry stated in an interview he wanted to see if “it was the smoke making the music or Lee Perry making the music. I found out it was me and that I don’t need to smoke.”
E.N Young aka Ian Allan Young is a San Diego roots musician born and raised on the USA Mexico border. Long time musician E.N Young has performed with many artists including Stranger, Roots Covenant, and backed many Jamaican and Reggae artists for the past decade. Young has shared the stage with such influential talents like Ozomatli, Louis the XIV, The Marleys, Toots, Dave Wakeling, Barrington Levi, Don Carlos, Eek A Mouse, Johnny Osbourne, Twinkle Brothers, Junior Reid, Katchafire, Cultura Profetica, Paula Fuga, Midnite, Groundation, Soja, and Rebelution to name a few.
Shoreline Rootz is an original 11 piece Rootz/Rock/Reggae band based out of Encinitas, San Diego California. Formed in 2009, the smokey sounding vocals of Ryan Thorpes are truly original. Their music is heavily influenced by Groundation, Burning Spear, Bob Marley, & many of the older roots reggae sounds. This band has huge horn lines, female backing vocals, & a strong percussion section guaranteed to open the eyes of any reggae enthusiast. They have kept their gigs fairly grass roots because they are so new on the scene, yet have shared the stage with such acts as: ISRAEL VIBRATION, KATCHAFIRE, COLLIE BUDDZ, & SEEDLESS! Check out their upcoming show on November 23rd with Mike Pinto and Seedless at the House of Blues! Or come out to 4th and B!
Don’t forget the talents of Carlos Culture will be there! Just like our Collie Buddz show, he will be spinning the newest and hottest Reggae and Dancehall. You can usually catch Carlos at Winstons on Wednesday nights in OB for Club Kingston!
